The back was in tatters and the batting had fallen out so I layered new wool and pre-felt first, then a new backing of naturally dyed silk and rayon. The blue thread in the original heart-shaped design was still strong so I followed it with new quilting stitches. Renewed with brightly coloured velvet patches and wet felting, the old quilt is now greener than grass but at the same time it is wrecked. In 2019, she unpicked the original quilt, mended it here and there with velvet, and reapplied the plates to new fabrics that she had coloured with natural dyes. The central 'hearth' shapes in each of the log cabin blocks are an orange colour. The ones in the middle are photo transfers of the children when they were very young, the middle sized ones are drawings of the family, and the larger ones that are the furthest away from the 'real' of the photo, are abstract and hazy paintings. This piece was completed in 1991 and was included in I Will Remember You Until I Die at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery September - November 1991. textile using journal papers and women’s magazine pages. the papers were wrapped with silk and silk-like fabrics and velvet before being whip stitched together. the idea is that each of us, all the time, are two people: the person that we present to the outside world, and the more interesting one within, full of fantasies and thoughts. the title comes from something the artist read in an essay by art critic lucy lippard. lippard said that women made quilts to rescue the mundane, the beautiful, and also the emotional moments from their lives.
